TRIAL...? | WEEK 7
FINAL TRIAL...?
The participants' sleep the night before is blessedly free of god-sent dreams - in fact, it is free of any dreams at all. From the time they drift off to the time they wake they find themselves in a deep slumber, undisturbed by anything.
When they do wake in the morning, it is to silence. There is no call to arms, no compulsion to visit the courtyard... but the temple as a whole is almost deafeningly silent, and no matter where one looks - even in the east and west wings - Ambition and Piety seem to have vanished without trace. Equally concerning is the fact that, no matter how many offerings are left or payers are made, none of the other gods are answering, either.
It's as if they have entirely vanished.
The only sound within the temple, aside from the ones made by the characters themselves, is a fluttering of wings. The observant may notice the occasional purple butterfly - identical to the kind they saw in their dreams Thursday night - flutter by out of the corner of their eye, but when they turn to look, it is gone, although the butterflies they see always seem to be headed for the courtyard.
It isn't until noon that something truly noticeable happens.
At noon on the dot, a swarm of butterflies converges on the courtyard, some alighting on the statues of each of the participants, others circling the courtyard and flying out to where each of the participants are. For those who were not in the area, the butterflies lead them back, until the majority of the group has gathered there.
Then - all at once - the butterflies disperse. Many of them disappear into the sky, or fly down the stairs exiting the temple and vanish into the clouds below, but twelve of them remain within the temple, fluttering into various rooms and leaving a pervading sense of dread in their wake.
Two butterflies vanish into the altar room, and inside this room, two new doors have appeared: one bearing the ∞ symbol, and the other bearing the ☠ symbol.
One butterfly vanishes into the armory, and the ✒ symbol appears on the door.
One butterfly vanishes into the beauty salon, and the ✪ symbol appears on the door.
One butterfly vanishes into the costume hall, and the ☀ symbol appears on the door.
One butterfly vanishes into the dance studio, and the ❤ symbol appears on the door.
One butterfly vanishes into the game room, and the ㋡ symbol appears on the door.
One butterfly vanishes into the hall of mirrors, and the ☢ symbol appears on the door.
One butterfly vanishes into the laboratory, and the ◉ symbol appears on the door.
One butterfly vanishes into the parlor, and the ✿ symbol appears on the door.
One butterfly vanishes into the pool, and the ♚ symbol appears on the door.
One butterfly vanishes into the private study, and the ♝ symbol appears on the door.
Once they are all gone, it grows so quiet in the temple that one could hear a pin drop. And then, just as suddenly as the butterflies had appeared, another creature appears, hauling a wooden box that is larger than it is; it's a miracle it's even managed to lift it.
"There's no time!" the creature says as it sets the box down in the center of the courtyard. "Something terrible has happened. Run and get anyone who isn't here yet, and listen to me!"
When any last stragglers have arrived, the creature begins its explanation.
"The gods have been... corrupted. I'm not sure how it happened. Ambition and Piety saw the butterflies coming and created this--" It shakes the box. "--to help you before they were taken, but the gods all need to be purified as quickly as possible. If they stay like this too long... it might stick."
Good luck, participants. You may need it.

OOC NOTES
Hello, everyone, and welcome to our seventh trial ... of sorts!
As no one has died this week and we have gone into endgame, this "trial" will be following a slightly different format than previous trials. To begin with, there will be no voting this week. Instead, the trial will be split into two parts, both taking place on this post.
For the first part, your objective is to complete a dungeon crawl and rescue each of the gods that have been corrupted. Each one will have been corrupted in a different way, and the groups that go after them may face different dangers; however, characters will have the ability to form parties and take various items with them that may be of assistance while they go.
Each of us will run one dungeon crawl at a time - meaning that up to three can be running concurrently. For reference, the gods are divided this way:
Britt: Ambition, Fortune, Ruin, Sincerity
Danielle: Disorder, Indulgence, Justice, Piety
Ty: Beauty, Cunning, Love, Merriment
Once each of the gods has been rescued, part two of the event - which will follow the more traditional format of a trial - will commence, beginning a council between the gods and the living participants to discuss the end of the contest and the future of this world.
We will run this post for the usual amount of time - from 9 AM PST/12 PM EST to 6 PM PST/9 PM EST. At that point, NPC tags on this post will cease, and the gods will disappear back into their domains to recover. ICly, they will be unavailable for audiences until Sunday.
If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord or on plurk! Britt (
bloodthirstiest) and Danielle (
entrappings) are both on hand today; in addition, due to the involved nature of the endgame trial, Ty (
interpretively) is on hand to assist as well.
Thank you, and have fun!
