TRIAL | WEEK ONE

FIRST TRIAL
The participants' sleep the night before is blessedly free of god-sent dreams, and when they wake and the morning dawns bright and early, they find themselves drawn to the courtyard.

The courtyard looks mostly the same as it did the day before - filled with statues of each of the participants, with frosted glass-topped coffin at the center. However, now that the trial has begun, Shiki's coffin is open, and her body is available to be examined.

Patience is standing among the statues, waiting for everyone to arrive. Once the entire group has been gathered, she speaks.

"Last night, a champion was taken from us, and a God has been angered. Reparations must be paid in kind...so today, we gather to determine which among our suspects will be held accountable."

She gestures behind her, and above the altar room's doorway, marble busts appear depicting the masked faces of five gods, names etched upon their stands. The culprit is among their ranks, but which team will bear the burden?

Good luck, everyone. You have nine hours to decide... and your time starts now.

VICTIM;

SUSPECTS;

OOC NOTES
Hello, everyone, and welcome to the first trial!

A few notes on logistics, as this will play out a little differently than trials in previous games -

Firstly, in lieu of an investigation on Friday, during the trial itself, participants will have the chance to investigate a preserved version of the temple as it was on murder night - a copy, if you will. This can be done by providing the name of the location you wish to investigate to the host. For the sake of your mods' sanity, only one location may be investigated at a time, and no more than three characters should take part in the investigation. Your host will be accompanying you into the area and can manipulate the environment upon request to allow you to test theories, which you can then report the results of to the rest of the group at large. For this purpose, we suggest that you visit locations to confirm or deny theories that have come up in discussion at the trial, or to search for clues if you get stuck. The others can and should continue to brainstorm while the investigation crew is away.

Secondly, rather than having a traditional suspect system where your vote is for which individual you think committed the murder, trials at Plasmatio focus on determining which god is responsible for the actions of their follower, and in turn, which god will therefore lose a follower in reparations for stealing the life of one of the participants. There are multiple ways of taking part in this trial - you can focus on solving the murder, or focus on lowering the numbers of a suspect god you don't want to win the whole competition, or focus on your own character's goals, whatever they may be. Ultimately, your task here is to sway the group at large into voting the way you want them to.

And speaking of votes... before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 6PM PST/9PM EST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.

If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord or on plurk! Danielle ([plurk.com profile] entrappings) is taking point on the trial today, and Britt ([plurk.com profile] bloodthirstiest) is her backup. Thank you, and have fun!

Is there no way to trace those feelings back to the owner?

Uh, not to be a bummer, but if targets share the same injuries...

[He shrugs. Someone finish the sentence for him, please.]

Then Julius will die, should his hypothesis be correct.

Well, yeah, but I meant he could hurt himself and see who else the injury shows up on. Both things suck, though.

[ what the absolute FUCK MODS

oda takes a moment, trying to keep himself at least acting chill but— ]

...I see. But it won’t last forever, right?

The right thing to do is never the easy thing to do. Someone always has to make a sacrifice.
odasaku: (11)

[personal profile] odasaku 2019-02-23 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
We shouldn’t sacrifice more than we’ve already lost.
digestif: (i used to dream about the other side)

[personal profile] digestif 2019-02-23 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if that only means you'll lose more later?
odasaku: (17)

[personal profile] odasaku 2019-02-23 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That doesn’t mean that we should throw away lives for the sale of throwing them away. That thing can’t last forever on Julius.
digestif: (i had to leave behind)

[personal profile] digestif 2019-02-23 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd be sparing Julius so that someone else innocent dies, instead. If Itachi really is guilty, then we'll at least have accomplished something.

[personal profile] ritualization 2019-02-24 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
We will accomplish the same thing either way: ending someone else's life. Would his guilt truly put you any more at ease in losing two, instead?
digestif: (i came to break the wall)

[personal profile] digestif 2019-02-24 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
... No, a life is a life. However... I believe that we shouldn't allow gods that want us to kill each other to win, if we want to save the most lives. To that end, stopping Itachi would be in our favor.

That’s true.

If we are able to find a new lead in our remaining time, then by all means. I'd like to avoid any unnecessary sacrifices as well.

A connection between them doesn't definitively prove anything, other than that someone chose to use Strung Red on the two of them. If anything, it's most important to figure out who did it, and why. Let's not rush to judgment.
tootsiepop: (076)

[personal profile] tootsiepop 2019-02-23 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone may have been experimenting with their newfound powers, with unfortunate results.

[He doesn't sound entirely convinced of that theory, though.]
covenantal: (o29.)

[personal profile] covenantal 2019-02-23 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It could be. Is it possible all of this is simply an unfortunate coincidence? [ Honestly, even he looks doubtful of the idea, but at the same time, it's still possible. ]

[personal profile] tootsiepop 2019-02-23 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Possible? Yes. Plausible is another matter entirely.

[personal profile] covenantal 2019-02-23 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Quietly ] I understand. I just don't want to risk everyone getting carried away. I don't disagree with you, but we should discuss hard decisions like that once we're certain we'll have to make them.
menially: (with words that I should have said ★)

[personal profile] menially 2019-02-24 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
There's not enough to make it make sense.

Patience mentioned Ambition's involvement, not Love. Julius only had symptoms start the morning that the body was announced, which means that whoever connected them had to have done that the night before.

You could argue Itachi might be using it to make us choose elsewhere, just so we don't lose multiple people. But I'm not convinced enough.
covenantal: (289.)

[personal profile] covenantal 2019-02-24 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. The more I think about this, the more the logic just falls apart. If it was Uchiha-san using the power, he'd only be incriminating himself unnecessarily if anyone found out about it. If it was anyone else, we simply have no proof of a connection to Shiki's death. Personally, I think this theory is a dead end.
menially: (absolutely)

[personal profile] menially 2019-02-24 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
And if people do lean towards the popular theory, and, in theory, Itachi is still chosen regardless of his guilt, then we still lose Julius regardless... or someone else entirely innocent gets thrown out because we all jumped to conclusions.

We're going to have to draw the line somewhere, but this isn't a smart place to stop.
