TRIAL | WEEK ONE

FIRST TRIAL
The participants' sleep the night before is blessedly free of god-sent dreams, and when they wake and the morning dawns bright and early, they find themselves drawn to the courtyard.

The courtyard looks mostly the same as it did the day before - filled with statues of each of the participants, with frosted glass-topped coffin at the center. However, now that the trial has begun, Shiki's coffin is open, and her body is available to be examined.

Patience is standing among the statues, waiting for everyone to arrive. Once the entire group has been gathered, she speaks.

"Last night, a champion was taken from us, and a God has been angered. Reparations must be paid in kind...so today, we gather to determine which among our suspects will be held accountable."

She gestures behind her, and above the altar room's doorway, marble busts appear depicting the masked faces of five gods, names etched upon their stands. The culprit is among their ranks, but which team will bear the burden?

Good luck, everyone. You have nine hours to decide... and your time starts now.

VICTIM;

SUSPECTS;

OOC NOTES
Hello, everyone, and welcome to the first trial!

A few notes on logistics, as this will play out a little differently than trials in previous games -

Firstly, in lieu of an investigation on Friday, during the trial itself, participants will have the chance to investigate a preserved version of the temple as it was on murder night - a copy, if you will. This can be done by providing the name of the location you wish to investigate to the host. For the sake of your mods' sanity, only one location may be investigated at a time, and no more than three characters should take part in the investigation. Your host will be accompanying you into the area and can manipulate the environment upon request to allow you to test theories, which you can then report the results of to the rest of the group at large. For this purpose, we suggest that you visit locations to confirm or deny theories that have come up in discussion at the trial, or to search for clues if you get stuck. The others can and should continue to brainstorm while the investigation crew is away.

Secondly, rather than having a traditional suspect system where your vote is for which individual you think committed the murder, trials at Plasmatio focus on determining which god is responsible for the actions of their follower, and in turn, which god will therefore lose a follower in reparations for stealing the life of one of the participants. There are multiple ways of taking part in this trial - you can focus on solving the murder, or focus on lowering the numbers of a suspect god you don't want to win the whole competition, or focus on your own character's goals, whatever they may be. Ultimately, your task here is to sway the group at large into voting the way you want them to.

And speaking of votes... before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 6PM PST/9PM EST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.

If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord or on plurk! Danielle ([plurk.com profile] entrappings) is taking point on the trial today, and Britt ([plurk.com profile] bloodthirstiest) is her backup. Thank you, and have fun!

We have enough time that we don't need to start talking about this until we can see if we can find out more.
bakaomi: (let's go down)

[personal profile] bakaomi 2019-02-24 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Here's the problem. Even if we do get enough evidence to figure out it's him, it's not his name we're voting for. It's the god. We need to make sure we also have enough time to figure that part out.

[personal profile] requiemed 2019-02-24 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
And what if we spend time on that and then figure out it's not him?

[personal profile] unremorseful 2019-02-24 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe we should figure out which of the gods on that list has the most to gain by bumping off one of Ambition's followers.

I think most of them are pretty... anti-murder, or at least not excited about murder at the least.

[personal profile] unremorseful 2019-02-24 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
According to... who, exactly? The gods themselves?
bakaomi: (so say goodbye)

[personal profile] bakaomi 2019-02-24 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Uh. If they were lying about that, wouldn't they out themselves by soliciting murder?
unremorseful: (011)

[personal profile] unremorseful 2019-02-24 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Like it or not, one of them is responsible for this, even though people are saying they've all been acting nice. So we can't exactly believe they were being totally truthful.
bakaomi: (to the vows you take)

[personal profile] bakaomi 2019-02-24 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
All I know is that I was told they try not to lie too much because it'll bite them in the ass if it gets out.
unremorseful: (008)

[personal profile] unremorseful 2019-02-24 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
And who told you that?
bakaomi: (we'll meet again)

[personal profile] bakaomi 2019-02-24 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Look, if you run around pretending to be a pacifist, but also you get other people to murder for you, word will eventually get around. And people will switch to a different god.
unremorseful: (005)

[personal profile] unremorseful 2019-02-24 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Not if you ask the right people. And there's only so much time that we'll actually be here. All they have to do is play their cards right, and nobody will be any the wiser.

Do you seriously think that there are any of these gods that don't want to win?
bakaomi: (the stench and the fume)

[personal profile] bakaomi 2019-02-24 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
If a god is smart enough they can win without killing. Just because whoever you've been talking to might not have a shred of intelligence doesn't mean they're all idiots.
unremorseful: (006)

[personal profile] unremorseful 2019-02-24 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right, I'm sorry. Only a few of them are willing to kill. That's why they came up with this whole trial system as part of the game, because it was just so unlikely.

[Blackfire spreads her hands and shrugs.]

Would they really have set up all of this if they thought they could win without killing anyone?

If we assume they're lying, then we're not going to get anywhere here.
unremorseful: (005)

[personal profile] unremorseful 2019-02-24 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
So your answer to all of them saying "No murder! Not us!" but none of the gods they said would ask for murder being a suspect is...?
requiemed: (pic#12929115)

[personal profile] requiemed 2019-02-24 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe one of their followers just sucks. They can't control what they do, right?
unremorseful: (010)

[personal profile] unremorseful 2019-02-24 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. But we all had that dream, didn't we? And I know in my dream, all of the ones I had to pick from were pretty in line with who I am.

None of us have had the chance to switch around yet, either. It'd be pretty strange for someone who was okay with killing to wind up with a god who's not, is all I'm saying.
requiemed: (pic#12929150)

[personal profile] requiemed 2019-02-24 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Except not all of us like the choices we were given. Didn't Chuuya have to pick the one he disliked least? And he's going to immediately defect.
unremorseful: (009)

[personal profile] unremorseful 2019-02-24 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, but here's another question. If you don't like your god, why would you go and kill someone for them? That's just risky. Whoever did this was playing to win.
requiemed: (pic#12929116)

[personal profile] requiemed 2019-02-24 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
...I mean, I already said I thought it just one of their followers being an asshole, so I agree with that.
unremorseful: (003)

[personal profile] unremorseful 2019-02-24 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Follow that logic just a little further. If you don't like your god and want to spite them, why lower another god's numbers? If you're really that willing to kill, just wait to defect and go after the followers of the god you don't get along with. Then you can at least be acting on the behalf of a god who will reward you for it.

[She shrugs.]

But getting a god who won't kill - and then killing on their behalf just to spite them, and risking getting caught before you can get anything for it? What would even be the point of that? No, I think it's more likely that at least one of the gods on that list isn't as innocent as they've been acting.

bakaomi: (i can't always just forget her)

[personal profile] bakaomi 2019-02-24 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
That's what Catra suggested and what the Victorian dude was agreeing to.

[personal profile] requiemed 2019-02-24 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know that's what they were suggesting. I'm saying it's not a good plan just yet.
bakaomi: (for all the ghosts that)

[personal profile] bakaomi 2019-02-24 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Uh huh.

I'm just going to say I want to hug you right now, so maybe you should step away?
