TRIAL | WEEK THREE

THIRD TRIAL
The participants' sleep the night before is blessedly free of god-sent dreams, and when they wake and the morning dawns bright and early, they find themselves drawn to the courtyard.

The courtyard looks mostly the same as it did the day before - filled with statues of each of the participants, with frosted glass-topped coffin at the center. However, now that the trial has begun, the coffins of our victims are open, their bodies is available for examination.

Disorder, for obvious reasons, is standing alone among the statues, waiting for everyone to arrive. Once the entire group has been gathered, Disorder, hands on her hips and chin held high, addresses the crowd. True to form, her opening statement is a touch more embellished than the previous two and a far cry from the stammering insecurity of the one given the week before.

"So, here's the skinny. Not only were three champions eliminated last night, but one of us gods were, too. You all saw it. A lot of us? Like, we're crazy pissed, and somebody's gotta pay, so that's where you come in. But--like, what, am I supposed to handle all of this on my own? I'm not Patience."

"Luckily, you don't have to be!"

Sincerity, clad in their usual mask and flowing robes, appears at the entrance to the courtyard, striding forward confidently. Their voice is cheerful, despite the fact that they're out here because one of the other gods is too dead to assist with the trial.

After a moment, they stop and arrange the fingers of one hand into a v-for-victory sign and pose cutely.

Disorder, laughing, lifts her robes and bounces the way over to her oft-rumored enemy and throws her arms around their shoulders. One of her legs pops up in the air as she hangs off of Sincerity. "Isn't it great? We talked things over and we're, like, totally best friends now, so Sincerity offered to help me out! For a murder trial this is gonna be, like, totally off the hook."

Behind them, above the doorway to the altar room, marble busts appear depicting the masked faces of the five suspected gods, names etched upon their stands: Justice, Ruin, Indulgence, Love, and Ambition. The culprit is among their ranks, but which team will bear the burden?

Normally, this would be the start of the timer, but as Disorder lets go of Sincerity and gets comfortable, she seems to remember something else, and raises her hand for one final announcement.

"Oh, one more thing, by the way. You might all remember a little rule I made: that by Friday, you all had to talk to at least one god that you aren't already aligned with? Which is, if you think about it, the easiest rule ever since Fortune didn't have any followers so, like, literally anybody talking to her would have followed it by default?" Disorder gives a pitying sigh and shrugs. "But I guess even that was too much of a hassle, because a good handful of you still totally chose to break the rule. So, for your punishment:

Anyone who only spoke to their aligned god will be required to defect this coming Sunday.

"You know who you are; have fun socializing, bitches."

Good luck, everyone. You have nine hours to cast your vote... and your time starts now.

OOC NOTES
Hello, everyone, and welcome to our third trial!

After the positive reception of last week's streamlined trial mechanics, we'll be operating in the same fashion this week and going forward, barring any future suggestions that we may receive. Each trial is surrounded by different circumstances, so don't expect this one to play out the same way as the last, but for now we're going to cut back a bit on the overview and trust you all to go forward on your own. Still, read on for a general reminder on what to keep in mind while playing with the game's specific trial mechanics:

Participants will have the chance to investigate a preserved version of the temple as it was on murder night by providing the name of the location they wish to investigate to the appropriate host. Only one location may be investigated at a time, and no more than three characters should take part in the investigation. Clues from the death announcement dream and the characters' bodies themselves will provide hints for which places you may want to investigate, so these will serve as good ic talking points. The accompanying host is able to manipulate the environment upon request to allow you to test theories. We suggest that you visit locations to confirm or deny theories that have come up in discussion at the trial, or to search for clues if you get stuck. The others can and should continue to brainstorm while the investigation crew is away. Characters may revisit previously searched locations.

The purpose of these trials is determining which god is considered responsible for the actions of their follower, and in turn, which god will therefore lose a follower. Ultimately, your task here is to sway the group at large into voting the way best plays to your strategy and not just for solving a crime. Remember that no matter what conclusion you come to, there's never any guarantee that any actual culprit will be up for execution. We highly encourage that you start early thinking about which god may have had the most to gain from the crime, so you aren't finding yourself voting blind at the last moment. When you're ready, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 6PM PST/9PM EST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.

If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord or on plurk! Danielle ([plurk.com profile] entrappings) is taking point on the trial today, and Britt ([plurk.com profile] bloodthirstiest) is her backup. Just like last week, we'll have a feedback plurk up tomorrow to ask for any opinions on how the trial went and if there's any room for improvement to make it an even more fun experience for everyone!

Thank you, and have fun!

[ shit i meant to write GLYCOSIDES MAUYN CURSED ME. ]

So far, nothing has been a match!

[ can entrapta check if it's cyanide based on the sweet smell? ]

Oh, thank you! I will check that next.

Here, lemme see.

[He nudges her over to get a look, too. He's checking the choco milk against the glycoSIDES that Entrapta's already identified.]
hairckervoice: (blinding science WE GET IT)

[personal profile] hairckervoice 2019-03-09 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
What did you find? [ entrapta is so happy to have a fellow scientist she's not hogging!! ]

[ also just analyzing choco milk in general. ]

Hm... There's a type of poison that some toads have that induces vomiting and will eventually lead to death if you ingest enough of it. That's got glycoside in it. I don't think anyone used a frog for this, though. I'm still thinking the poison is in one of the plants somewhere.
hairckervoice: (SCIENCE)

[personal profile] hairckervoice 2019-03-09 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, we did have people becoming frogs a few times....

[ hm. ]

But there must have been another source. Most likely plant-based, you are correct. Where have you checked thus far?

[ mods i'm stupid af but entrapta is not would her analyzing the glycoSIDES indicate anything in particular.... ]

[He shakes his head.]

Those frogs weren't a poisonous variety. I've just checked in the courtyard, but I didn't bring any of the common plants, just the new stuff this week. We should check the common varieties just to be sure, but I'm thinking the west wing might be our best bet.
hairckervoice: (mm but its poetry in motion)

[personal profile] hairckervoice 2019-03-09 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't collect enough data to be sure! But that is good to know.

[ next time she's taking samples of u fucks. ]

Yes, excellent! We must find the source.

[batman transition jingle]

I'm not great with plants, but I did find these in the courtyard.

[He's got a cute and deadly bouquet of oleander, lily of the valley, and foxbane, which he'll do some science on to check for glycowhatevers.

gboys, apparently.]

[this is the smartest thing i have ever done.]

Hey Entrapta, check this out. We've got a match.
hairckervoice: (i can smell the chemicals)

[personal profile] hairckervoice 2019-03-09 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhh? [ shoving her face in there to look too sorry newt ]

Fascinating! Lily of the Valley was used as poison!
