TRIAL | WEEK FOUR
FOURTH TRIAL
The participants' sleep the night before is blessedly free of god-sent dreams, and when they wake and the morning dawns bright and early, they find themselves drawn to the courtyard.
The courtyard looks mostly the same as it did the day before - filled with statues of each of the participants, with frosted glass-topped coffin at the center. However, now that the trial has begun, the coffins of our victims are open, their bodies is available for examination.
Cunning, for obvious reasons, is standing alone among the statues, waiting for everyone to arrive. His arms are folded over his chest and he's leaning against whatever statue is conveniently behind him, eyeing the participants as they fill the courtyard. When the last participant arrives, he speaks.
"So hey, thanks to someone today's trial will be a little different. You know these things still need two of us, right?"
A voice interrupts him, coming from the courtyard's entrance. "Don't worry, I'm not going to make you do this alone. I'm here now, so we can get this started!"
Ambition, clad in her usual mask and flowing robes, strides forward. In stark contrast to last week's appearance, she seems much more composed than before - in fact, she seems perfectly at ease, and she heads up to join Cunning, crossing her arms and surveying the group imperiously.
"Cunning's in charge of field trips today, and I'll be handling your questions. Try not to ask anything too ridiculous, got it?"
Behind them, above the doorway to the altar room, marble busts appear depicting the masked faces of the five suspected gods, names etched upon their stands: Merriment, Ambition, Justice, Cunning, and Disorder. The culprit is among their ranks, but which team will bear the burden?
Good luck, everyone. You have nine hours to cast your vote... and your time starts now.

OOC NOTES
Hello, everyone, and welcome to our fourth trial!
Each trial is surrounded by different circumstances, so don't expect this one to play out the same way as the last, but for now we're going to cut back a bit on the overview and trust you all to go forward on your own. Still, read on for a general reminder on what to keep in mind while playing with the game's specific trial mechanics:
Participants will have the chance to investigate a preserved version of the temple as it was on murder night by providing the name of the location they wish to investigate to the appropriate host. Only one location may be investigated at a time, and no more than three characters should take part in the investigation. Clues from the death announcement dream and the characters' bodies themselves will provide hints for which places you may want to investigate, so these will serve as good ic talking points. The accompanying host is able to manipulate the environment upon request to allow you to test theories. We suggest that you visit locations to confirm or deny theories that have come up in discussion at the trial, or to search for clues if you get stuck. The others can and should continue to brainstorm while the investigation crew is away. Characters may revisit previously searched locations.
The purpose of these trials is determining which god is considered responsible for the actions of their follower, and in turn, which god will therefore lose a follower. Ultimately, your task here is to sway the group at large into voting the way best plays to your strategy and not just for solving a crime. Remember that no matter what conclusion you come to, there's never any guarantee that any actual culprit will be up for execution. We highly encourage that you start early thinking about which god may have had the most to gain from the crime, so you aren't finding yourself voting blind at the last moment. When you're ready, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 6PM PST/9PM EST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.
If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord or on plurk! Britt (
bloodthirstiest) is taking point on the trial today, and Danielle (
entrappings) is her backup.
Thank you, and have fun!

[at the start of the trial, heeeere's senri! with a new accessory over his left eye - he doesn't stray too far from sasuke's side, but he's waving a hand to try to get people's attention anyway.]
I want to get this out of the way if we can - but in case you've never defected, here's a super quick mechanics lesson! [senri takes his coin out of his pocket and flips it so that it catches the light at different angles - of course no one can see the symbol, but it looks rather tarnished? definitely not as pristine as most normal coins] Once you switch gods, your coin becomes less than perfect. Everyone knows I had to leave Cheri, so here's mine.
Here's my pitch: please let me see your coin. I'm going to see if we can see the coins of those who.... passed this week, too. The reason I'm bringing this up is from the last trial - someone had to use their Ruin power of Equivalent Exchange to hurt Aimi. Her injuries suddenly appeared while we were talking, and they spelled out 'missed me'. Ruin had zero followers this week, obviously... but that means anyone with a pristine coin can be cleared of suspicion, since it would've been tarnished in the switch. If anything, it'll bring down the numbers of who could've hurt Aimi before, and who bragged about getting away with murder.
[ . . . ]
And I have pictures of coins in different stages from different defections, if we need it...
But it's been bothering me - and I think that even if your coin isn't perfect, that doesn't mean you're guilty... but it'll at least trim the number for some people.
So... please, and thank you!
[show him your coins, punks]

[Mouri likes the thought of finally having some indication who got away with murder, especially since they may have attacked Ruin.
He doesn't offer his coin yet, though. He wants to hear other people's opinions and see if they do what Senri says]

re: Luna / also focusing
Either way, it's probable that her death is somehow related to this. Maybe she tried to go after Ruin? Whatever the case... it's callous, but last week proved that we divide our attention too much across the kills.
[...]
Therefore, I'm proposing that we focus better this time. If we had known Fortune's killer last week, we would've sent them to their death regardless. So, if there's any death we should save for later, it's theirs.
Along those lines—which ones should we focus on? Or, as I've had someone suggest earlier this week, how do we want to organize ourselves?

Zoe speaks up first.]
Okay, uh. Senri and I went to the dance studio, and the mirror was shattered. There was blood and pieces of a bandage around that area. There was a jagged piece of the mirror that seemed like it had missing glass, too. The CD Cunning gave us was Ariana Grande...?
[She pauses for a moment.]
Also, uh... We kind of found a severed hand that doesn't look like it belonged to any of the victims. It kind of looks like an adult man's hand...? We also found this penguin that was dancing to the music. I think that's it.
[She's weary.]

[ishikirimaru is holding that severed left hand in his right one, which is thankfully gloved; bundling up has its benefits sometimes, i guess. he's still mostly blanket burritoed.]
We will need to see if anyone is, ah... short one hand, and considering blood was mentioned, I believe it may be a good idea to check for injuries-- though I understand this week's events may make that somewhat difficult.

Body Findings: Bart Edition
He's soaking wet, so his murder must have taken place near the lake. But he wasn't injured in any way. No signs of a struggle. As for the cause of death, it seems like he drank acid.
[ yikes.gif whomst the fuck made a twelve year old drink acid ]
The only other sign of anything wrong was a piece of the back of his shirt being dirty, and partially dissolved. Strangely, the skin of his back was fine despite that.
There's not much to go on here. It's possible Water Into Wine was used to create the murder weapon, but since Indulgence isn't a suspect, his killer either got help from an Indulgence follower, or they somehow got Bart to drink acid without that kind of trick. How, I couldn't say.

east wing - day findings
[ here comes catra, taka, and jude. do not comment on why they're all soaking wet. or why jude has scratches on him. please........ he tried his absolute best. ]
There really wasn't too much in the east wing in the morning aside from some used medical supplies but we can all figure out what that means.
[ hooray for capture the flag!
We found some foundation and also a note written by Mizuno about what her thoughts about what was going on. [ except he kind of...doesn't have it on him and looks extremely apologetic about it. ] I... We don't have it anymore, but she wrote that she agreed with Luna about her investigations into Ruin and had painted a target on herself because of it. She also wrote about how she was trying to figure out who they might have ran to and thought it might have been Justice. She wasn't able to find proof of it when she wrote this letter, however.
[ a break for him to sneeze. he omits the part about the dead part because he didn't understand the context of it. ]
In the end she also wanted people to take care of her penguin and...to not think of her how she died.

Okay, so there's a lot and you're still struggling. Makes sense, this is a lot to unpack. But another follower wanted to lend you a hand...no pun intended. Good thing Justice moved the statues back. [He points over to the altar room.]
You might want to consider that while you round up your info.

Body Finding: Luna Findings
Hey hey, Luna looks like she was cut and stabbed. The cuts aren't very deep, but the stab is. There's blood on her and some mysterious red stuff. Entrapta said it's actually strawberry.
[ There's a beat and then... ]
I think maybe Luna might have been in a sword fight some where dusty or with a lot of dirt? She used a sword when we were fighting monsters during capture the flag.

SUMMARY: AI MIZUNO
I've been thinking about Aimi's murder.... It sounds like she was staying in a cabin in the East Wing and she left a note saying that she thinks that she might be targeted by the Ruin follower because she was trying to find them. Luna-san was the one who told her that thought, and Ray-kun suspsected Luna-san....
Even so, she thinks they might've gone to Justice but... well, she didn't really have a lot to back that up. But it's worth mentioning. They also found foundation, which I think was hers.
She was also in the Dance Studio where Zo and I went. That's where we found Rin-chan, the penguin, and there was music playing. Since Aimi was with Merriment, I think she might've been using All Nighter to practice? The mirror was broken, and there was blood by it. There was also... the hand? But the hand wasn't like - in a pool of blood on its own or anything. And we don't know where the hand even came from still...
It looked like the blood came from just one large injury, and some bandage filament was snagged. We didn't see anything that looked like Aimi was dragged out or anything.
But the thing is that Aimi also had an injury... Her body was soaking wet, she had a giant mirror shard in her head. It sounds like when Luke-kun sniffed her [weird] she smelled like chlorine so people might go to the pool later. Her skin was also discolored and she had injuries underneath her bandages but... um, I think that - that might be part of what the foundation could've been for? I don't know how to explain that.
I'm not sure why she was wet after she was already... you know.... Or maybe she was drowned first, and then it was made to look like there was a fight in the dance studio? Why would someone need to put her in the pool? I just think it would've taken someone really vicious to just - stab her with a piece of broken mirror like that.

pours one out for ruin (+ west wing findings)
Ruin's throat was slit, and she was stabbed through the stomach with some kind of blade. The wound only went so deep as to pierce her liver, so it couldn't have been from something the length of a sword. [A knife or dagger, maybe. They had access to plenty of those this week... But, anyway.] ... She was also covered in bruises, and several of her bones were broken.
[Why y'all gotta go so hard with the god murders.]
After examining the West Wing with Ray and Uchiha, I believe she was attacked at the bottom edge of the town and then dragged to the summit... Where she was subsequently pushed off the edge. Whoever her killer was, they also took the time to write good luck on the outer walls of the orphanage.
[A beat.]
... I suppose I should also mentioned that she was partially [uh] devoured by some of the creatures in the West Wing. A dragon, and something with the dental anatomy of a canine.
no subject
There was also a footprint. I drew a reference, so we can try a check—though the print was smudged. It could also potentially belong to Ruin herself.
[a pause.]
Also, we found the remains of the net.

Altar Room Findings
[He points to Cinque's ballsack.]
There was a pillowcase full of billiard balls hidden behind the throne? Not sure what's up with that. But, other than that, the room was clear except for a massive blood trail on the floor. I'm thinking Luna might've died there given that she was covered in red stuff and we're thinking Ruin was killed in the west wing. It could've been Ruin's blood, though. It's tough to say.
[And that's it! Except, oh, wait.]
It looked like whoever died there was dragged out of the room, too.

[Did Luna or Ruin have anything that indicated they were battered with something? If so, that'd be of use]

BODY DRAGGING: RUIN
There was a body that was dragged out of the altar room, right?
Let's see who's physically able to drag a body.
[He gestures at Ruin's body, even if he doesn't touch her.]
I'm sorry for our disrespect.

suspects?!?!?!? maybe discuss them
We're running out of time. Let's start deciding on our options.
[ a sigh. ]
... This isn't going to be the pleasant kind of discussion that most of you would like, but that's the way things are. We don't have any damning evidence, so we're going to have make educated guesses. All of the killers are alive. Most likely, Luna-kun intended to kill Ruin-san, but she failed, so let's put her and what she did last week aside for the moment. It's not relevant to what we have now. What we do know is that only Merriment and Ambition's powers were used last night, and they weren't used to kill anyone. One of Merriment's powers is the ability to stay up past curfew - I think that accounts for at least Mizuno-kun's presence, if not Bart-kun's, too.
[ a pause. ]
That leaves the use of Ambition-kun's power up for debate. I think that makes her suspicious, even if she lost one of her followers. [ a beat. ] Furthermore, I'm considering Cunning-san suspicious, as well. He made it clear to me that he supports killing in this game earlier this week.
[ a beat. ] ... Before you yell at me, I'm merely offering these as starting points for discussion, and as options. As far as who the actual killer was, we should consider who among us would be willing to personally kill one of the gods. I know there are those here who dislike them... Myself included.

EAST WING REPORT
We can all agree Luna was in the strawberry field, due to all the strawberry on her. It was pretty clear something happened there, most likely a fight. We found several stab marks on the ground that were made with something larger than a dagger -- possibly a sword, as it was mentioned Luna's weapon of choice was a sword. There were also no marks that indicated someone was lying down for long or pressed against the ground, if Luna was murdered there then it was while she was standing up and moving.
[He holds up a mask -- Ruin's mask]
We also found Ruin's mask in that area. It's clean, with no dirt, strawberry or blood on it. It's unlikely Ruin was involved in the fight at all, so this mask either was left there on purpose, or Ruin was there, it fell off her face or something, and then she ran away.
[He's not sure which one is more likely, but yeah, those are the conclusions they reached]
an addition!

nyan clock nyan
There's half an hour left. We know Ambition isn't guilty, and three of the remaining four are. Justice has the most followers and everyone's agreed he's most likely to be tricked, Disorder's main involvement seemed to be Newt, Merriment already lost two so if we vote for him he's at one, and Cunning got the most followers last week. Pick one.

LAB RESULTS
Furthermore, I found rubber gloves, beakers, tongs, and three unmarked bottles containing identical looking liquids. When I tested them, two of them were acid and one was what appears to be... some kind of sweet beverage.
My hypothesis is that Bart was made to drink acid, believing it was the sweet beverage, and was potentially induced to do so by challenge. As that is a rule this week.
[ acid doesn't even look like a word to me anymore. ]

Okay, listen up! You're out of time.
[It's impossible to see the look on her face, but it sure sounds like she's swallowed a lemon.]
Most of you voted for Disorder, and... she's guilty, even though this isn't actually her fault. [She turns her head to glare at Newt, her hands clenched into fists.] The good news is, you caught someone who killed two people this week, and one of them was a god. Not that I think Ruin is a huge loss, but... whatever. He killed one of yours this week, so we'll do something about it on Monday.
One last thing...
[She heaves a heavy sigh.]
You all know the rules. You agreed to be here, and you have to vote, every week, whether you like it or not. If you're not going to participate, you're out of the game. Someone decided to be utterly ridiculous and ignore that.
[She gestures at Apollo, waving her hand dismissively.]
Apollo, you're fired.
[A bolt of lightning appears as if from nowhere - incinerating him right there on the spot.]
Ugh. I really didn't want to have to do that, but... if you won't play along, you've got to go.
