MINGLE LOG | WEEK ONE

THE GREAT GAME
The morning breaks. Regardless of where you decided to sleep, the gentle sounds of the water flowing through the courtyard teases you from your slumber, pulls you forward. Patience waits on the top of the steps leading from the courtyard to the altar room, hefty scroll in hand. It isn't until all of the competitors have gathered that she taps the end of the scroll in her open palm contemplatively.

"Good morning, everyone. As of right now, the Contest of the Gods has officially begun. The initial rankings are as follows:"

Patience unfurls the scroll and reads its contents aloud. As she does, the text etches itself into the polished white stone columns that line the courtyard.
LOVE: 7 FOLLOWERS
INDULGENCE: 6 FOLLOWERS
SINCERITY: 5 FOLLOWERS
AMBITION: 4 FOLLOWERS
CUNNING: 3 FOLLOWERS
DISORDER: 3 FOLLOWERS
JUSTICE: 3 FOLLOWERS
PIETY: 3 FOLLOWERS
BEAUTY: 2 FOLLOWERS
FORTUNE: 2 FOLLOWERS
MERRIMENT: 2 FOLLOWERS
RUIN: 2 FOLLOWERS

Rerolling the scroll and storing it up her voluminous sleeves, she takes a deep breath and stretches her arms over her head. "Ooooookay! With that out of the way, I have just a few more announcements, then we'll call this golden and you can all enjoy the rest of your week of conspiring and sabotaging. Let's see..."

Patience taps a finger to her masked chin, then snaps her fingers.

"Right! First of all, you can now hold council with any of the gods of your choosing. This goes two ways, so don't be surprised if one of them decides to approach you first. Secondly," she holds up two fingers, "whichever power that you've decided to accept from your chosen god is now available for you to use at your own discretion. If you have any questions about that, I can try and answer the best I can, buuut you're better off approaching the god who came up with it in the first place."

A third finger goes up. "Next, there are a few more things you should keep in mind with the start of the contest. You may decide, be expected, or receive a request to complete different tasks in the favor of your patron god. If you for any reason are unhappy with your current alignment, at the end of the week you'll have an opportunity to defect from your following and pledge yourself to someone else's. Many of the gods will try to convince you directly or indirectly through their own followers to join their team to bolster their ranks, but it will always be your choice whether or not to do this, so take your time and think it over...you never know what the consequences may be when you break a vow of loyalty." A slight pause, and then, "oh, right, curfew's at 10PM every Thursday night. Lame, but make sure you're snuggled away by then or you might wake up to an unpleasant surprise."

With a great gasp and then a squeal of delight, Patience begins to clap her hands together, bouncing from foot to foot. "Okay, great, now the fun part! I made something really great, so come join me, okay? If you want to talk, you'll find me in the room at the end of the east hall!"

With that, nobody feels compelled to stay any longer, and will be free to explore. True to her word, it seems as if the east and west halls have regained the doorways that had been missing from their blank faces. But...aside from that, it seems like something may be missing, as well.

OOC NOTES
With our second log and the kickoff of week one, the Contest of the Gods has officially started in an IC capacity! All pages and mechanics are now available to read, so make sure you look over everything carefully--and watch for any announcements concerning updates that may appear throughout the course of the week! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us through plurk or discord, as always, and we'll do our best to clear everything up for you as quickly as possible. If you haven't submitted a reporting of your power choice or made a screened toplevel for your character(s), please make sure to head on over there and do that now, as we'll be contacting you via those screened comments to let you know if you've been made a target of!

Above all else...have fun and tag and toplevel freely!

I can't say I am. But I can keep you company, if you'd like.

[After all, it's not like she really eats or anything; I'm going to say robots can taste things but the eating thing really isn't a thing. Not that that stops Luna from going into the food establishments and rubbernecking. That's the best place to find humans and other organic beings congregating, after all.

And gods, apparently.]

Oh? Were you planning to do for your other patrons what I was planning to do for you?

[Luna seems a little amused by the thought -- though not entirely surprised. That mask does look awfully confining, and gods are just about as strange as the robots of her time.

She's going to follow in Patience's footsteps without hesitation, light and quick on her feet.]

I think there are ways I could enjoy it more. [one hand rests briefly over where her heart might have been] But it's certainly never boring, and I couldn't say the same for my home.

I suppose it isn't surprising, all things considered. It has been a long time, though.

[Given what she is. She assumes all the gods should have some idea of each other's competitors, but you never know. Patience, though, at least -- Patience probably has the most impartial information out of the lot, or should.

She falls silent for a few moments at the question, seemingly turning it over.]

I don't know if I was always bored. But it's surprising, what can become monotonous after a while. Even if you see the whole world -- if you can only see them for one thing, it all starts running together, doesn't it?

The spice of life... I feel like I've heard something like that recently.

[A very morbid version of it, but then Casshern had a talent for making anything extra-morbid. The guy really needed like, a massage or something.

Luna, for her part, has to take a bit more time on this question. She's not ancient, but she's been around.]

I've never... [...] Does it need to be something that can be done here?

That is true. I've lived by the sea -- I lived beside it for my early years. But I've never sailed it, and I've never crossed it.

[As a robot, she could probably have gone swimming fairly far.

But the sea is still a force to be reckoned with, of course, and it certainly isn't the same as traveling above it.]

[A soft laugh.]

Maybe you could. I wouldn't mind more fish, either.

[They're fun to watch, rather like a mini koi pond. She spends a good deal of her time at the pool just hanging out with them, in their little enclosed world.]
